"Segero" Vessel Reaches Guatemala
Montevideo, Uruguay, October 24, 2000 - Emergia Holding N.V., subsidiary of Telefonica S.A., today announced the arrival of the last vessel that will be utilized for the placing of Emergia's submarine cable in the pacific ocean zone.
The cable laying from Puerto San José, Guatemala to Lurín, Peru is set to begin this week. The completion of the submarine cable laying between these two countries is expected to occur on November 25.
"The arrival of the "Segero" to Puerto San José is a significant feat," said Eduardo Caride, CEO of Emergia. "This is one more step toward the completion of Emergia's submarine network, which will facilitate the integration of Latin America into the world of broadband."
When complete, Emergia's cable network will connect undersea fiber optic cables with terrestrial infrastructure to provide city-to-city connectivity among principal Latin America cities, the United States and Puerto Rico.
