Last week's inauguration of the two landing stations in Arica and Valparaiso marked the expansion of Emergia's fiber optic network by connecting Brazil, Argentina and Chile. This is the third portion of the approximately 25,000 Km network Emergia is constructing to connect the principal cities of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Peru, Puerto Rico and the United States "Emergia is committed to providing Latin America with broadband surpassing all expectations," said Jose Manuel Muñoz, Chief Operating Officer of Emergia. "We are bringing a technology to Latin America that will revolutionize the way people communicate and do business in this region. With the capacity of the Emergia network, volumes of voice, data and video will be transmitted at light speed."
Emergia's initial capacity will be 40 gigabits per second expandable to 1.92 terabits per second in order to position the network for long-term development and growth. The Emergia network will also incorporate DWDM technology and a self-healing fiber optic ring. When complete, Emergia's network will increase the capacity now available, enabling Internet service providers in Latin America to offer faster connections, which will speed up the downloading process significantly.
Emergia's cable network will connect undersea fiber optic cables with terrestrial infrastructure to provide city-to-city connectivity among principal Latin America cities, the United States and Puerto Rico.
