Chilean TV Networks and Telefonica Data Chile Conduct first TV signal transmissions via Emergia's Broadband ring between Latin America and The United States
Santiago, Chile and Miami, Florida, November 21, 2001- Emergia S.A., a provider of broadband infrastructure services that has developed the most extensive high capacity fiber optic system in Latin America, and Telefonica Data Chile, a company that specializes in data network services and international services, announced today that they successfully conducted the first TV transmissions between the United States and Chile using Emergia's fiber optic network. During the last week, major Chilean TV channels (channel 7, channel 9 and channel 13) transmitted interviews with President Ricardo Lagos, from Miami Florida during his official visit to the United States.
Emergia has been operating in Chile for over a year, offering its customers the highest standards of quality and service. Now, Emergia reaffirms its commitment with Chile by successfully conducting the first TV transmissions between Chile and the United States utilizing its fiber optic ring.
The transmissions proved once again the high quality that assures the transfer of the TV signals from country to country via Emergia's fiber optic network. The quality and reliability of Emergia's ring, together with its point to point connectivity capacity were key factors which allowed the inexistence of failures in the transmissions as well as reliability and security in the transmitted images.
The main participant in these tests that Emergia conducted was Telefonica Data Chile, which provided its local network to transmit the signals from Emergia's ring to the TV channels in Chile. The transmissions were possible thanks to the utilization of the ABL de Aldeavision equipment, a Canadian company that provided the necessary encoders.
"We at Telefonica Data feel very proud to have participated in these new TV transmissions between Latin America and the United States via fiber optics. We believe that this marks a significant step in technological advancement and will allow for the opening of new frontiers for better and different methods of transmitting information and television content," said Juan Pablo Karmy, Commercial and Marketing Director, Telefonica Data Chile. "We will continue to develop our technology and commitment with the Chilean market together with Emergia."
"We consider this to be a significant milestone. Our infrastructure is ready to fulfill the highest demands of quality and level of service," said Nicolas Carkovic, Director of Emergia in Chile. "The television transmissions that we have conducted through Emergia from the United States, together with the satisfactory results that we have obtained confirms our commitment to bringing our country closer to the rest of Latin America and the United States."
