Telefonica International Wholesale Services enhances its IP-backbone connectivity in the US.

The expansion provides direct connectivity with the major content providers and main networks in the USA.

September 30th, 2002, Madrid, Spain. - Telefonica International Wholesale Services, the division of the Telefonica Group that offers wholesale telecommunication services at a global level, announced today that it has enhanced its IP-backbone presence in Vienna, Virginia (USA). In doing so, it has increased connectivity within the region's main NAPs (Exchange Points).

Telefonica Wholesale's presence in the region's neutral exchange points provides direct connectivity with the major content providers and main US backbones, thus improving latency, raising efficiency, increased network performance and improves the overall quality of the service for its customers in the USA, Latin America and Europe.

Through this network expansion and high reliability of its IP-backbone with a single Autonomous System (AS) and redundant and fully meshed MPLS-based infrastructure, Telefonica Wholesale, provides an incomparable end-to-end quality of Internet Transit service to its clients.

Within one month, Telefonica Wholesale will also upgrade its connectivity in the West Coast of the US. This improvement added to the active presence in more than 250 cities in 20 countries and the ownership of extensive domestic networks in 14 countries in Europe and America, will enhance the IP Services offering, enabling direct access to the main global IP exchange points.
