Hughes Network Systems Europe Expands Network Provided to Telefonica Data Dedicated hub and 50 additional remote sites added to CLH network
Hughes Network Systems Europe (HNSE), Europe's leading provider of broadband satellite solutions, announced today that it is upgrading an existing HNS VSAT (very small aperture terminal) satellite network provided to Telefonica Data, a leading Spanish telecommunications services provider. HNS will provide Telefonica Data with a new VSAT hub that supports the PES 5000T satellite terminal and 80 PES 5000 remote terminals and 110 PES8000 (these will be replace for PES5000 in the next years).
Since 1992, Telefonica has been meeting the satellite communication needs of CLH, an energy company, through a shared hub supplied by HNS and PES 8000 remote terminals. The upgraded network provides CLH with a fully dedicated hub that allows the company to improve the level of performance of the existing platform. Telefonica Data will operate the hub and network on behalf of CLH. CLH utilizes the network to run SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisitions) applications for remote pipeline monitoring.
"Our decision to invest in a satellite communication network solution eleven years ago has helped our company control our infrastructures throughout Spain. We are able to rely on the service Telefonica Data provides us, as well as the experience of HNS in the retail and petroleum industries to make our business stronger," said CLH executive.
"HNS designs its satellite networks to be easily upgradeable and expandable, giving companies the flexibility to invest in a single communications platform that has the ability to grow with their business," said Luigi Pagni, Hughes Network Systems Europe vice president. "Working closely with companies like Telefonica Data, HNS is able to deliver exactly what a company needs when they need it."
"We have a long standing relationship with HNS," said Beatriz Escat, International Services vice president of Telefonica Data. "The performance over the years of the network supplied by HNS made it easy to choose Hughes to meet the expanded needs of our customer, CLH"
Installation is scheduled to be complete by April 2003.
