IP On Demand the automatic bidding system for IP bandwidth reservation or on-line purchase.
Madrid, May 7th, 2003. - Telefonica International Wholesale Services, the organization within the Telefonica Group providing international wholesale communication services, has announced yesterday in Amsterdam the launching of IP On Demand, a service to purchase IP bandwidth on demand, initially available in Amsterdam, will be expanded to other markets in a later stage.
IP On Demand complements Telefonica's IP Transit Service, providing an effective and dynamic marketplace that will provide customers with the ability to purchase IP bandwidth with complete flexibility. Bandwidth purchased through IP On Demand will by priced at dynamic market prices and provisioned automatically in real-time, creating significant advantages in a highly competitive market.
"IP On Demand is an innovative approach to the IP bandwidth market; its ability to flexibly price and allocate bandwidth makes our network more efficient and gives our customers the innovative services they want", said Rafael Arranz, Vice President for IP Services at Telefonica International Wholesale Services.
This innovative service, based on MerkatoT -- a technology developed by Invisible Hand Networks, Inc., of New York, will allow customers to buy the bandwidth they need whenever they need it at optimum market prices. By fixing purchase parameters (budget, bandwidth needs, etc.) they will either buy IP bandwidth on the spot with an automated intelligent Buying Agent or bandwidth reservations for a required time-span. Both purchasing methods can be overlapped if needed.
To benefit from IP On Demand customers won't have to face any recurring charges, no term or minimum monthly commitment involved. To access this service they just need to get connected to the IP exchange in any of the cities where the service is available.
