Telefonica International Wholesale Services awarded with the contract for Internet access service in Algeria

Will provide IP transit to Algérie Telecom the next two and a half years.

Geneva, October 14 2003.- Algerie Telecom has appointed Telefonica International Wholesale Services as its provider for international access to Internet. The key factors in the awarding process have been both Telefonica Wholesale IP Backbone performance and matching the requirements Algerie Telecom had for content access.

Under this contract, initially for a length of two and a half years, it will provide Internet access to Algeria through a highly reliable direct interconnection with the Telefonica Wholesale state-of-the-art IP Backbone through the submarine cable ALPAL-2 (Algerie-Palma de Mallorca).

Algerie Telecom Spa., Operator of Telecommunications, is undergoing a telecommunications development process that includes the boosting of the Internet usage in the country.
