Will provide direct IPv6 connectivity between Madrid and São Paulo for the "IPv6 Global Launch Event", under the organization of the European Commission, Euro6ix and 6net, adding those services to its commercial portfolio

Madrid, January 15th. 2004.- Telefonica introduced just today the first services based on IPv6 technology, during the "IPv6 Global Launch Event", under the organization of the European Commission. The Congress, of a widespread projection, will gather the main figures in deploying the new Internet, which is based on IPv6.

The target for this meeting will be to promote the deployment of IPv6 in Europe showing the latest advances in services, devices and applications brought out by two projects, both of them financed by the EU: Euro6ix, led by Telefonica I+D and 6net.

Telefonica's pioneering experience in broadcasting High Definition TV events under this protocol will grant IPv6 connectivity between Madrid and São Paulo during the Event.

Telefonica IP backbone, with an overall 20 million final customer base and direct interconnection with the main internet traffic exchange points in the world, already has fully equipped nodes to provide IPv6 international access integrating communication services between Europe and Latin America through IPv6.

Telefonica will also list this new protocol into its service portfolio for businesses in Spain and International Carriers alike. DataInternet becomes the first available service to include this brand new protocol, an Internet access managing solution for businesses, which will be gradually joined by new services.
